First - the Wedding
After a 7 or 8 hour drive, of which I did the majority, and which included driving in the rain, we arrived at the hotel after 3 AM. We drove my friend K's car. It took me a while to get used to a car other than my own. Heck, other than a Buick. I can count on one hand the number of cars I've driven at all which have not been Buicks.
We got to the hotel and were told there was a problem with the reservation I made in FEBRUARY. The only double room left was on a smoking floor. I'm allergic. I agreed to try. We went upstairs, and K opened the door while I stood several feet away in the hall. I choked. We went back downstairs where I told them it was unacceptable. I was ready to sleep in the damn lobby. They called another hotel to see if they had a room. While on hold, "our" hotel determined that they had a non-smoking room, but it only had 1 king sized bed. We took it, and they gave me a roll-away bed (which, I might add, it took them a while to find). I told K that since she was sick and had worked a full day (we got out early, so I had napped, which was why I could do the driving), she should take the bed. Between her coughing all night and the springs in the roll-away which seemed to believe they belonged embedded in my body, I had a less than stellar night's sleep. They did give us a free buffet breakfast in the morning and they did switch our rooms Saturday so I had a real bed Saturday night, but I would have preferred a real bed both nights. I can buy breakfast, but I can't buy a good night's sleep.
The wedding was very nice. J's new husband seems like a nice guy. J told me she would have invited my Dad if he had been alive. Daddy was close with all of my friends. It was nice to hear that she would have invited him, but it also hurt. As I said yesterday, the wedding was beautiful, but a painful reminder of what I will never be able to have.
The drive home was ok. K did most of the driving, which was ok. I only drove for about an hour and a half in the middle, after we stopped for lunch. The drive up to lunch I was dark green (something about the heat, I suspect) and the last half I was light green. On the plus side, I didn't get sick. I got home around 5, took a nap, but didn't get to sleep until too late. I'm not too bright that way sometimes.
Second - Work
Made it to work yesterday exhausted. Overall an OK day. One customer was deaf, so he and I ended up writing everything we needed to say. I had another deaf customer today. Fortunately, I can finger spell. I really ought to take a class in sign language though. It can help at work, which means the county will pay for me to take it, and it could be cool. We shall see. Some of it depends on when I work overtime.
I'm not working overtime this week - I have GOT to clear out SOME room for Grandma's furniture to arrive on Friday. Of course, if the doormen strike tonight, all my plans my go to hell, but we shall see.
Other than that, things are relatively calm. Well, calm for my life.
Break is over, so back to work!
